Surgical Procedures

Eyelid Plastic Surgery, Reconstructive Surgery & Cosmetic Surgery

Dr. Paul Brannan, an Oculo-facial plastic surgeon, has been specially trained to perform reconstructive and corrective surgeries on the eyelids, orbits and face. These conditions can result from a congenital defect, photodamage, the aging process or trauma. Many procedures are referred to as "functional surgery" and are often covered by insurance. Dr. Brannan's experience in skin cancer surgeries has been enhanced by his unique alliance with a Dermatologist in his practice. Another aspect of his practice is "cosmetic surgery" which is performed to improve one’s appearance and enables you to look as good as your feel.

Surgical Procedures

Eyelid Lift, Upper and Lower (Blepharoplasty)

Removal of excess upper and/or lower eyelid tissues. This surgery can improve peripheral vision, remove unwanted excess skin and fat, lessen perceived “heaviness” of the eyelids and restore your youthful appearance. Often, upper eyelid surgery is covered by insurance if there is significant limitation of function. Dr. Brannan will perform an in office evaluation to determine if you qualify for coverage.

Skin Cancer Facial Reconstruction

In most instances, Mohs micrographic surgery is done in our office to completely remove the cancer while maximizing the preservation of normal tissue. The reconstruction is performed immediately afterwards to restore function of the area with the best cosmetic outcome.

Facial & Eyelid Lesion Removal

Removal and reconstruction of facial and eyelid lesions, preserving form and function of the area involved while maximizing cosmesis.

Tear Duct Repair

Excessive tearing may be due to obstruction of the tear ducts (lacrimal passages). Surgery is performed to bypass the obstruction and create a new passage for the tears.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

A variety of conditions can result in lower eyelid malposition (entropion, ectropion, lid retraction), most of which are related to age. This can lead to eye irritation, redness, tearing and inadequate eye closure. Surgery is performed to reposition the eyelid and restore function.

Orbital Decompression

Expansion of the orbit by removing bone and/or soft tissue. This may be required for severe bulging of the eye (exophthalmos) in thyroid eye disease.

Pediatric Procedures

A number of eyelid, orbital and lacrimal (tear duct) anomalies can effect children, usually starting at birth and becoming manifest within the first year of life. These include congenital malpositions of the eyelids, orbital vascular malformations (hemangiomas), and blocked tear ducts. He also has years of experience with pediatric lacerations and trauma.
